Sony chief Andrew House has finally confirmed that a more powerful Playstation 4 is in fact in the works. Kotaku first reported back in March that a more powerful PS 4.5 was in development. House reported to the Finical times that Neo is “intended to sit alongside and complement the Ps4”. He also noted that Sony would sell both through the life cycle. The Neo will not be shown off at E3.
No specs were given with the Finical Times report, however they did confirm that the new console will support 4K resolutions. Giant Bomb’s Austin Walker reported in April possible specs of the Neo shown below.
It’s more than likely Sony got out in front of this story to lower expectations of a reveal during their E3 press conference on Monday.
Reports have also speculated that Microsoft intends to reveal a more powerful Xbox One, code named Scorpio. For news on that we may have to wait for E3.
