Today, Blizzard made the announcement that gold earned in World of Warcraft can be turned into Battle.net credit. The same credit used to by things like Hearthstone card packs and loot boxes in Overwatch.
The idea isn’t all that foreign to WoW. It’s an expansion on WoW tokens. WoW, tokens were introduced back in 2015 and were a way to exchange in-game gold for game time. Vice versa the token could be bought outright and sold in a special marketplace for those looking for some in-game gold.
Starting today, you can also trade WoW tokens for basic Battle.net credit used across all of Blizzard’s games. So if you’ve got a bunch of unused gold sitting on an old WoW account, you can turn it into Overwatch Skins or Hearthstone packs.
